If you’ve been paying attention to announcements on LinkedIn, this year’s NAB Show looks to be a big one for Media over QUIC (MoQ). Norsk was ahead of the curve with MoQ — we’ve supported it since 2024 — and our latest announcements demonstrate how it’s become an integral part of our approach to live streaming.
We’ll be demonstrating MoQ in Norsk Studio at our booth (W3113), and Norsk CTO Steve Strong also will be appearing daily at the Cloudflare booth (W2300G), showing live media from Norsk delivered at subsecond latency over Cloudflare’s global MoQ relay network — a production media workflow engine and a worldwide delivery network speaking the same next-generation protocol, end to end.
The latest:
- MoQ is now fully integrated into Norsk Studio, with dedicated components for both input and output to Cloudflare
- MoQ is now the default protocol for Studio’s Preview component
- Norsk Studio provides end-to-end latency measurement using MoQ
- Full support for version 16 of the MoQ spec
“MOQ has the potential to reduce the complexity of today’s streaming stack, but what’s compelling right now is the control it gives back to the client—particularly around latency and quality trade-offs,” says Strong. “Combined with browser support and payload-agnostic relays, it creates a space where we can genuinely innovate, experimenting with codecs and delivery strategies in ways that existing protocols don’t allow.”
The Norsk/Cloudflare partnership is only natural. One of the spec’s core developers, Mike English, literally wrote the book (or at least the definitive article for Streaming Media magazine) about MoQ when he was on the Norsk team. Mike continues his work on MoQ with Cloudflare, and Norsk is proud to be a partner in their MoQ initiatives.
“Cloudflare already operates one of the largest global networks, with servers in over 330 cities. MoQ lets us turn that entire network into a live streaming relay. Every server can now deliver live video in under a second to viewers nearby,” says Dane Knecht, CTO at Cloudflare. “That’s the kind of scale and performance that used to require purpose-built media infrastructure. With MoQ, it just works on the network we’ve already deployed.”
Steve will be at the Cloudflare booth (W2300G) each day of the show:
- Sunday, April 19: 3 – 4 p.m.
- Monday, April 20: 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 21: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, April 22: 10 – 11 a.m.
Stop by the Norsk booth, W3113, or set up a meeting with us to learn more about adding MoQ to your streaming toolbox.
